Rediscovering Belize
(and a little bit of Guatemala)
A note from the new (old) editor
It has been a long hiatus for me, away from the Belize Report. After 11 years of building and running a successful resort in Cayo, the place has sold and I am setting out to rediscover my own (albeit adopted) country. Much of the original material on this site is outdated, if not obsolete; so it will gradually be updated or archived, and new material added as I make my way around the country.
I am adding a new aspect, as well, that being the area known as Petén, Guatemala. This department meets the western border of Belize and encompases many amazing ruins of Maya cities such as Yaxha, El Mirador, and the legendary Tikal; with more sites being re-discovered almost weekly. It is also home to the famous island city of Flores situated in the beautiful lake Petén Itza. Many of these areas are accessible as day trips from Belize, but I encourage people to add a few days onto their holiday to explore this area with the time it deserves. Enjoy your holiday! --Pamella Picon
